EUrope reimagined: Exploring European reform options
Description
The ongoing war in Ukraine and the upcoming European elections reignited debates on the EU’s enlargement and reform policy. The Parliament’s AFCO Committee and the Franco-German Expert Group have recently presented their Reports proposing concrete ideas for institutional and democratic reforms.
Ahead of the plenary voting on the Parliament’s Report, this online Democracy Reform Conversation will discuss key questions, including: Why do we need to reform the EU? What are the necessary reforms to make the EU more effective, democratic, and ready for enlargement? What are the current political prospects for EU reforms? How have the EU institutions and member states reacted so far? In light of the upcoming elections, what are the next steps in the reform process, and how can the EU citizens be more engaged?
This is an online event organised by the EU Democracy Reform Observatory’s “Democracy Reform Conversations”. The EU Democracy Reform Observatory is a joint initiative of Bertelsmann Stiftung, European Policy Centre, King Baudouin Foundation, and Stiftung Mercator, to foster debate on modernising European democracy.
