Bio
Nicole Curato is Professor of Democratic Governance at the University of Birmingham's School of Government. Her work examines the transformative power of deliberative democracy in fragile and conflict-affected settings. In recent years, her work has focused on the practical ways in which the governance of forums of citizen deliberation can be improved from the local to the global level.
Before moving to Birmingham, Nicole was a Professor at the Centre for Deliberative Democracy & Global Governance at the University of Canberra. She was the founder of the Deliberative Democracy Summer School, editor of the Journal of Deliberative Democracy, and founding co-lead of the Global Citizens' Assembly Network. She has published three books on deliberative democracy, over 50 journal articles and book chapters, and op-eds for The New York Times, The Guardian, and Australian Foreign Affairs, among others.
