Sonia Matera is a Secure Societies Consultant at Deep Blue since April 2023. Prior to her current position, Sonia served as Climate Change Officer at the Italian Red Cross, from October 2021 to March 2023. During this time, she contributed to setting the environmental sustainability strategy of the organisation, drafting policies and coordinating the carbon footprint measurement of operations and offices. She has professional experience as a disaster management and resilience consultant for international and governmental organisations in Turkey. She holds a B.A. in Global Governance from University of Rome Tor Vergata and a M.Sc. in Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Adaptation from Lund University. During her Master's, she had the opportunity to collaborate with the Swedish Red Cross and conduct the fieldwork for her Master thesis in Myanmar, where she collaborated with volunteers and staff from the Myanmar Red Cross Society. Her mother tongue is Italian, she is fluent in English and studied French and Spanish.
