Apply to showcase your project at the 5th Citizen Participation and Deliberative Democracy Festival
The fifth edition of the Citizen Participation and Deliberative Democracy Festival will take place in Brussels, 12-14 June 2024. The event brings together people of diverse backgrounds who work on – or are interested in – the engagement of citizens in science, policymaking and deliberative democracy. The theme of this Festival is focused on the engagement of citizens in addressing environmental issues, including the climate, biodiversity and pollution crises.
The Festival program includes expert panels, workshops, method and tool showcases, policy and artistic presentations and research reflections, including opportunities for discussion and networking. Each instalment of the Festival also features an exhibition of citizen engagement projects, designed to showcase the diversity of participatory processes implemented across Europe – and beyond. This year, we are opening two separate calls for:
- Citizen engagement processes (e.g., deliberative mini-publics, co-creation or co-design workshops, participatory planning, futuring tours);
- Resources for citizen engagement (e.g., toolkits, guidelines, blueprints, method descriptions – all things that can help others in carrying out participatory processes).
The projects and resources will be showcased in the digital exhibition hosted on the Festival website, and we hope to also present some of these during the in-person Festival days in Brussels.
We welcome examples of all types of processes and resources, provided that they respond to the theme of the Festival and aim to give a substantial role to citizens in terms of decision making and knowledge production. We are particularly interested in projects that employ novel or innovative approaches to citizen engagement, including, for instance, art or prototyping. We also do not put limits on the scale of the projects or the commissioning body – whether it is a neighbourhood participatory planning of green infrastructures organised by a housing association, a municipality-backed city-wide assembly on climate adaptation or an NGO-led participatory governance scheme for a nature conservation area.
We welcome proposals from organisations from all over the world. If interested, please send us your project by filling in the forms available:
The deadline for submissions is 31st March 2024.
Questions about the submissions and the Festival in general can be sent to: EU-CITIZEN-ENGAGEMENT@ec.europa.eu. In the title of the email please put ‘Festival-exhibition’.
We look forward to hear from you! Stay tuned for more information about the Festival in the coming months.
