Description

Democratising jUst Sustainability Transitions (DUST) is an innovative project receiving funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme. The project explores new forms of citizen engagement in the context of just sustainability transitions occurrring across Europe.

DUST seeks to promote new forms of citizen engagement in just sustainability transitions. Working with communities, policymakers, and practitioners in Sweden, Germany, Poland, Bulgaria, and the Netherlands, DUST uses new tools and methodologies to bring decision making closer to the communities that are most affected by transitions but politically least engaged.

The project is now in its second year. Case-study research analysing factors that influence citizen participation in eight case-study regions has been completed and regional experiments deploying a novel Regional Futures Literacy Lab (RFLL) format have been initiated. In these labs, DUST will explore how the least-engaged communities’ imaginations of their future can influence regional policies for just sustainability transitions.
