Pollinators Toolkit: Blueprints

Pollinators Toolkit: Blueprints

You are now familiar with the Protocol for developing a participatory process. You have also seen the activities you can use during a participatory event. How does this all come together? How do the steps of the Protocol translate into a concrete process? How to tie the individual activities from the toolbox together? This section will help you move from guidelines and ideas to an understanding of how things fit together, with examples of actual engagement processes.

The blueprints in this section were selected with the intention to cover key areas of engagement around the topic of pollinators and to present a wide variety of approaches and strategies in terms of recruitment, collaborations, process structure and tools used. For instance, you can find online, hybrid, and in-person processes.

All these blueprints are based on processes that were actually implemented. In most instances we describe things as they happened. Where activities didn’t work so well during the pilots, we follow instead the recommendations of the experts who implemented them on how to do things better next time – or draw on our own broader experience.

We wanted to show not just how the processes unfold, but also the ‘backstage’ – all the preparatory work that goes into their organisation. This way you can get a better picture of what is involved in the preparation and what kind of materials, tools and decisions are at play. This is the invisible infrastructure of each process that ranges from the concepts used to structure the process, through choreographies for the facilitators, all the way to catering menu choices. At the same time, we include examples of the outcomes of exercises, so it is easier to see what results can be obtained through different activities.

Finally, the blueprints are intended to help you think about your own process. As you read them, don’t look at them as procedures, but as an inspiration for your own work, in your context, on a concrete topic, with specific groups of citizens.
